Oscar Atanga

Oscar Ngu Atanga is a sound artist, curator and DJ currently based in Berlin. Originally from Manchester with Cameroonian roots, Atanga primarily creates electronic music that incorporates live instrument performances, engaging in both solo and collaborative projects. His sonic approach is distinguished by a profound exploration of texture and a dedication to reimagining both auditory and physical spaces.
After graduating from Oxford University, Atanga spent his earlier career working in London, firstly in law, before moving into fashion and entertainment. Since moving to Berlin, Oscar has focused on building his creative sound practice.
Over the last couple of years he has established a firm presence on the Berlin club circuit at venues such as the world renowned Tresor, amongst others, in addition to a residency as curator and artist at Berlin listening bar Kwia. Internationally, he has also played at clubs such as London favorites Corsica Studios and Colour Factory, Prague’s Ankali and C12 in Brussels.
As a resident artist at Berlin's Refuge Worldwide radio station, he shares a range of music across two shows; Sequences featuring more club focused mixes; and, Frequency Shift, providing a space for sharing wider influences including blues, rock, dub and a variety of electronic music aimed at headphone listening and spaces beyond the dancefloor.
Increasingly, Atanga has presented his productions within live experimental/ambient performances and sound installations in various music venues and art spaces including Lisbon’s Arroz Estudios and Berlin’s Galerie Wedding and Haus der Kulturen der Welt. As a composer and sound designer, Atanga also produces music for film and other commercial audio visual projects. He is also resident of the African Acid Is The Future label and collective, as well as co-founder of the Offbeat Coalition platform alongside Salma ElShami.
Since 2021, Oscar has worked as the lead creative strategist at Black Artist Database, a community-based platform undertaking various projects and initiatives to uplift Black creative voices, primarily within the electronic music industry. In the community, he maintains a focus on education, providing mentorship, organization and teaching across broadcasting, production and DJing workshops and other audio and music industry focused programs.
