Title of Project
Transitional Stage: Trans Performance and Relationship to the Audience
Description of Project
Transitional Stage is a dramaturgical artist statement for an alternative approach to trans visibility in theater. This project tries to imagine a theater collective that could avoid vulnerability to negative audience reactions and create an artistic space for identity formation and expression onstage. I want to theorize audience relations to trans actors and provide a dramaturgical model to move forward from just representation, and to present an example of what that performance might look like.
