Brandon Masterman
PhD Candidate
Brandon Peter Masterman spent his undergraduate years training as a saxophonist and vocalist specializing in avant-garde and experimental music. He has performed throughout the US and Canada with many different performance ensembles, ranging in style from rock to mixed-media performance art. After completing his bachelor's degree in saxophone performance, Brandon completed both his MLIS in music librarianship and an MA in musicology (with an advanced certificate in gender and sexuality studies) at the University of Pittsburgh where his work often focused on connections between music, popular culture, and queerness. Since arriving at the Department of Performance Studies, Brandon has been working on a method of theorizing the potentiality of sound to make a body queer. In addition to his PhD work, Brandon still performs music. He also drinks significant amounts of coffee and races bicycles.
