Phil Painson

Phil Painson is a New York City-based recording engineer with over 30 years of experience working with the top players in the music industry. Over the course of his career, Phil has worked behind the console with artists such as John Legend, Dave Matthews Band, Common, Public Enemy, Rza, Tricky, Ryuichi Sakamoto (Yellow Magic Orchestra), Nas, Erykah Badu and Pete Rock. Phil has also worked and composed music on projects for companies such as Universal Music Group, Capitol Records, EMI, Interscope, Arista, Sony, Dreamworks and HBO. Additionally, he has held staff engineering positions at New York City recording studios such as Greene Street Recording, Avatar Studios, Chung King, Kampo Recording and Unique Recording. Phil Painson is also an instructor and lecturer in modern music production at The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, Five Towns College in LI and the former Institute of Audio Research in New York City.
