Congratulations to the Grad Film alumni who were nominated for the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards, with two films receiving awards!
AWARDS
'A THOUSAND AND ONE'
A Thousand and One, directed by A.V. Rockwell, follows unapologetic and free-spirited Inez (Teyana Taylor), who kidnaps her six-year-old son Terry from the foster care system. Holding onto their secret and each other, mother and son set out to reclaim their sense of home, identity and stability, in a rapidly changing New York City.
A Thousand and One receieved the Best First Feature award.
'FREMONT'
Fremont, featuring cinematography by alum Laura Valladao, follows Donya, a former Afghan translator for the U.S. government who lives alone in Fremont, California. When she’s promoted to writing the fortunes at her job at a fortune cookie factory in the city, Donya’s loneliness and longing drive her to send a message out in a cookie, unsure where it may lead.
Fremont received the John Cassavetes Award which is given to the best feature made for under $1,000,000.
