GRADUATE FILM FAQ

Hopefully this page will answer any questions you may have. If your question has not been answered below, please email us at admissions.gradfilm@nyu.edu

DO I NEED A BACHELOR’S DEGREE TO APPLY?

This is a Master's Degree program. You must have a Bachelor’s Degree or be in the process of completing your Bachelor's Degree in order to be considered for the program. If you have a question about this, please contact Graduate Admissions.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

No. Individuals of all ages are welcome to apply as long as they hold a Bachelor’s Degree.

Do you accept transfer credits?

We do not accept transfer credits from other Universities. Students who currently attend a master's degree program at another university are permitted to apply but if accepted our program would still require 3 years of full-time study to graduate.

CAN I VISIT THE DEPARTMENT?

We are unable to offer in-person tours/visits for prospective applicants. Admitted students will have the opportunity to visit in the Spring.

Information sessions are generally held during the months of October and November. To learn more and to sign up, click Information Sessions.

DO YOU REQUIRE THE GRE FOR ADMISSION?

The GRE is not required for those applying to the MFA program. However, if you are applying to the Dual Degree MBA/MFA program, the Stern MBA application does require a standardized test score (such as the GRE or the GMAT). To learn more about the standardized testing requirement for Stern, click > Standardized Tests Stern.

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?

The program is 3 consecutive years of coursework. Students may graduate at the end of the 3 years, or maintain matriculation for one additional year to complete their thesis.

DO YOU OFFER ON CAMPUS HOUSING?

There are a limited number of spaces available for graduate students in campus housing. We suggest taking advantage of our large network of current students and alumni who are often subletting their apartments or looking for roommates.
