Mandy Giampaolo grew up on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi before attending the University of Virginia, where she majored in Media Studies and American Studies. As part of a distinguished majors project, she made her first film - a short documentary about the lingering effects of Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi, Mississippi, which was awarded the Audience Award for best short documentary at the Virginia Film Festival. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Mandy worked as a videographer at Harvard Medical School before becoming an MFA candidate at New York University's Kanbar Institute of Film and Television.
