There are a range of things our alumni go on to do after completing an MA in Arts Politics. Each year, the MA Arts Politics cohort is made up of individuals with a great diversity of experiences, interests, skills and goals. Please review our Alumni Page to see more information about the people who have passed through the program.

We have identified a few professional tracks with which our students and alumni seem to align. They are: Education (K-12, Musuem education, Teaching Artists, etc...), Curation, Scholarship (often pursuing terminal degrees such as PhD), Activism/ Organizing, Art (delving deeper into an artistic practice, sometimes pursuing an MFA).

Please note that many times our students exist among and between a few of these categories. We do not require students to identify themselves within these and we encourage the blurring of such boundaries. The definitiveness of these tracks seeks to provide prospective students with a larger sense of the department’s teachings and priorities.

The program lasts for one academic year, or 2 semesters (Fall & Spring). Students are enrolled full time for 18 units in the Fall and 16 units in the Spring. You can review unit curriculum requirements here.

Applications are accepted once per year in January, for entry in Fall of the same year.

The approximate size of the MA Arts Politics cohort is 18 - 20 students. This intimacy allows for artists and scholars to build working relationships and collaborations across the disciplines.

At this time, our students are not required to complete a thesis. Final projects may be required as part of individual courses.

Current tuition and fees total $35 432 per semester.

You may calculate tuition and service fees for the 2022 - 2023 academic year here. Please note, students in the M.A. in Arts Politics will take 18 credits in the Fall semester and a minimum of 14 credits in the Spring semester, as detailed here.

Estimations for the 2023 - 2024 are expected to be confirmed by the NYU Board of Trustees in June 2023. An increase of ~4% is to be expected each year.

Prospective students should also consider living expenses. These are not generally billed through NYU, with the exception of health insurance. NYU’s estimations are as follows:

Housing: $28,242

Books & Supplies: $818

Transportation: $1,154

Personal Expenses: $3,879

Basic Health Insurance: $3,637

We encourage all those applying to the M.A. in Arts Politics to begin researching funding opportunities as soon as possible.

Students who are admitted to Tisch School of the Arts are automatically considered for Tisch scholarships.

In order to be considered for federal aid, U.S. Citizens and eligible non-citizens must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is available at on the FAFSA website. Please submit as soon as possible and indicate that your data is to be sent to New York University, code number 002785. 

The department has limited funding to support students with their studies at NYU. We are unable to discuss details of funding packages until after an applicant has been accepted.

We encourage all applicants to research funding opportunities as early as possible, in conjunction with completing their application for the MA in Arts Politics.

Past students have found support through The Fulbright Program

We welcome students from outside the U.S. into our program each year.

NYU's Office of Global Services (OGS) manages the details of studying abroad in the U.S. Visit their website to find more information about visas and immigration documents.

It is the policy of New York University that the International Student Fee ($90.00) is charged to an international student every time the student registers for class. This means the student will be charged for registration in the Fall Semester, and again in the Spring Semester.

International students who are admitted to Tisch School of the Arts are also automatically considered for Tisch scholarships

Scholarships are limited for international applicants. Many international students obtain support for their educational expenses from their governments, foundations, or private agencies.

Private educational loans are also possible to help international students fund their NYU education. There is more information about private loans on our website. Most lenders will require a U.S. cosigner.

We encourage international applicants to begin researching funding opportunities as soon as possible. Students in the past have received funding from their home coutries and several have found support through the Fulbright Program

Yes. Applicants for whom the application fee poses a hardship can request a waiver by sending an email to the Director of Graduate Admissions Joe Miserendino (joe.miserendino@nyu.edu). In your email be prepared to explain the nature of the hardship and provide evidence supporting your request for a waiver.
