Joe McGowan
Communications and Strategic Initiatives
Joe directs communications and special projects at Tisch Drama—from the strategic development and implementation of new initiatives to coordinating operations for the Chair's Office. He is a member of the Chair's Team, and his portfolio includes supervising the department's Communications Office and the Office of Career Development & Alumni Relations. Joe earned a BA in European History and Theatre at Hunter College and did his graduate studies in history at Oxford University and Columbia University, where he focused on East Asian culture and foreign policy.
Joe had a long career in magazine publishing, working as a reporter and editor at Time and Fortune covering breaking news and the business of entertainment, and managing new editorial businesses.
After fifteen years of storytelling in print, Joe transfered those skills to the theatre. He has produced multiple productions, from immersive musicals to cabarets. He managed corporate sponsorship and niche marketing programs for several Broadway shows, including All My Sons and The Norman Conquests (The Old Vic). Joe has taught in Beijing and the United Kingdom. He currently teaches English using Drama and other creative techniques at schools in the New York metropolitian area and Europe.
