Florence Barrau-Adams

Florence Barrau-Adams is a producer, editor, sound designer, and educator who boasts over 20 years of experience working in audio and video productions. She has sound designed stage productions that debuted at Aaron Davis Hall, the Smithsonian Institution, Fringe Festival NYC, NJPAC, and the Kennedy Center.

She was an integral part of creating eight audio programs (radio and podcasts) from inception to implementation for outlets such as WNYC: New York Public Radio, Scholastic, and PRX. For 9 years, Florence hosted New York Kids, a weekly two-hour magazine format show on WNYC. Currently Florence is the Senior Producer of Citations Needed, a podcast about the intersection of media, PR, and power. With over 16,000,000 downloads Citations Needed was a 2020 WEBBY HONOREE. 2018-2020 Florence produced Justice in America, 2020 WEBBY NOMINEE. Guests included Ta-Nehisi Coates, John Legend, and Mariame Kaba. In 2021 she was the season 3 Mix Engineer for All Ears with Abigail Disney. Guests included Gloria Steinem, Me Too movement founder Tarana Burke, and environmental activist Varshini Prakash. From 2021-2022 Florence was the Senior Producer of Culturati: Conversations With Kierna Mayo, produced in partnership with PRX. Guests included comedian and television host W. Kamau Bell, foodie feminist Tanya Fields, and Q-Tip from Tribe Called Quest.

Florence has produced, directed and edited audiobook titles for Simon & Schuster and Scholastic, working with the likes of Stephen King, William Shatner, and Iyanla Vanzant. In 2001, she won an AUDIE AWARD for a multi-voice audiobook production, “Pay it Forward”.

In 2013, Florence was a part of the production team that won an ALA NOTABLE RECORDING & VIDEO award for Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion by Mo Williams. She video edited the iconographic animation for Coretta Scott by Ntozake Shange narrated by Phylicia Rashad, which won an 2014 ALA NOTABLE RECORDING & VIDEO award.

For the 2020 presidential electoral season Florence served as Technical Supervisor/Editor for The Appeal’s now defunct The Briefing and The Count - in partnership with NowThis. Daily video livestream on justice-related topics. Guests included Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Ayanna Pressley to name a few.
